My client, an Asset Management firm, is seeking to hire an assistant controller with +5 to 7yr years experience, to work along-side the Controller/CFO/COO, as part of a global operating team of 15 (New York; 9 and Singapore; 6) employees responsible for the core operations and value added functions of the funds to ensure appropriate ownership, transparency and control. Responsibilities will range from the daily and monthly P&L review, fund accounting and control reviews over financial reporting and operations functions of the funds. In addition, this position is responsible to participate in the preparation of annual financial statements for the Funds and the annual audit process for these financial statements. Other responsibilities for this position include daily monitoring and evaluation of the services provided to the funds by its middle and back office third party administrators. Reports to Controller/CFO. The candidate should have at least 4 years public accounting experience in the alternative investments space, the difference made up with private hedge fund accounting/control experience. The candidate must have a strong understanding of GAAS and US GAAP to be able to assist with the annual audit of funds and preparation of the funds’ annual financial statements. The candidate should be current with recent accounting pronouncements and should seek to maintain his/her expertise in the accounting industry. The candidate must have technical product and accounting knowledge to assist in internal and external daily/monthly reviews. The candidate should have the ability to oversee the reconciliation and review processes of the funds’ administrator and prime brokers, calculation of the funds net asset value and monthly investor statements that are prepared by the fund administrators. Candidate should be able to share his/her private hedge fund accounting experiences and best practices with the accounting/operations team. CPA and ability to take part in valuation controls is a plus. Energetic, highly motivated, dedicated, strong analytical and problem solving skills. Self starter is a must. Candidates must have the following: Degree in Accounting. CPA or candidate on CPA track. Minimum of 4 years as a high performing experienced senior associate in public accounting, remainder in additional private hedge fund accounting. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Ability to utilize Excel efficiently to perform various analyses. Understanding of process flows and ability to provide input to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

We are looking for someone that has proven technical or process developments skills for their level of experience. Other than possessing strong MS excel skills, they’d have the ability to reprocess an existing inefficient function/process with use of Access or SQL database, etc., while working independently by self or with our existing tech professional to lead change with use of a more robust platform or simply reprocessing an old inefficient process into a more efficient system. Fund responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):· Review of daily fund P&L (internally prepared). Review administrator daily reconciliations of portfolio and cash accounts (internal and externally prepared), liaise with Bookrunners (internal) and fund administrator (external) to resolve trade and cash discrepancies. Maintaining proper controls over accounting and operational procedures and transactions. Review administrator’s calculation of funds’ net asset value, investor allocations, and investor statements (external).Review of (and back-up responsibility) of daily margin, liquidity, leverage and cash reporting to CFO/COO and Portfolio Managers. Working closely with audit and tax teams at year-end. Interfacing with outside administrators/auditors. Handling special projects, special requests and other financial related matters. Handling ad hoc assignments as needed.
