Assistant Controller / Senior Accountant

Our client is a Midtown Manhattan based Private Equity Firm/Hedge Fund. they seek an Asst. controller/Senior Accountant with 5-7 years experience in the public and private sectors. YOU MUST HAVE BOTH PUBLIC & PRIVATE INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE!

1 – GAAP financial reporting to include deep experience in managing independent auditors, writing reports including footnotes and understanding and managing FAS 157 valuation and reporting process.

2 – 3+ years experience with managing 5+ accounting personnel.  Managerial experience is a requirement

3 – Hands on experience in working with a PE portfolio mgmt solution like Investran, Analytics or TNR (The Next Round) as there is a special project.  Experience in Wall Street Office (WSO) is also a plus due to our distressed debt investment affiliate.

4 – Conversant in partnership taxation issues including ECI, UBTI as well as foreign taxation issues including CSC and PFIC and strong comfort with both federal and state compliance requirements and tax principles.

5 – Detail orientation with a sense of urgency as quarterly deadlines are common.

Job Responsibilities –

Full charge responsibility for Fund (Partnership) Accounting & Financial Reporting to include –

-          managing capital calls and distributions to Partners

-          reconciling capital accounts on a quarterly basis

-          reconciliation of cash accounts monthly

-          preparation of unaudited quarterly financial statements

-          preparation of annual reporting package and coordination of annual independent audit of financial statements

-          responding to Partner inquiries

-          preparation of tax compliance filings (ie. Form 1065s and related state returns)

-          tax research experience and ability to understand and comply with state withholding requirements as it relates to acquisition structures resulting in a partnership operating a trade or business.

Working with Deal Teams to understand deal structures and assist with execution activities relating to acquisition and disposition transactions.

Involvement in special reporting and/or IT development projects

Requirements –

Bachelors Degree – preferably in accounting

CPA designation not required but a plus

A high level of proficiency in the use of MS Excel

At least 3 years of work experience in accounting – preferably having direct involvement with partnership accounting (experience in Private Equity – Leveraged Buyout Groups and /or Hedge Funds a real plus)

Detail-oriented and conscientious with good analytical and communications skills

Partnership tax compliance experience required, foreign tax experience a real plus
