Director of Internal Audit

Primary Responsibility:

Provide senior management and the Board of Directors with assurance as to the adequacy and effectiveness of the internal control process throughout the company. Additionally, this position informs senior management as to the effectiveness and efficiency of operations, reliability of financial reporting and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Director of Internal Audit will monitor and control internal audit examinations across the company (in coordination with external service providers if necessary).  Audit examinations are designed to ensure:

1. Internal accounting controls are effective in promoting efficiency and protecting the assets of the company.
2. Financial statements and reports comply with corporate policy, laws and regulations.
3. Compliance with operating policies.
4. Enforcement of ethical business practices.
5. Resources are employed efficiently and economically.
6. Business unit results are consistent with established objectives/goals and operations are being carried out as planned.

Job Scope:

This position helps ensure business is managed to the appropriate level of risk while making certain the objectives of the organization are accomplished and the directives of management are carried out. Specific responsibilities include:

• Monitor/test the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls.
• Implement testing and follow-up of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
• Recommend improvements and consult in the implementation process.
• Determine the appropriate scope of individual examinations for the annual audit plan. Ensure audit approach is adapted to the risk factors identified.
• Ensure proper communication between management and the Audit Committee on key findings and judgment.
• Supervise and develop staff.

Job Related Experience:

• Ten to fifteen years of relevant work experience in a corporate environment, including experience in public accounting and/or internal audit.

Knowledge:

• Formal training in accounting, auditing, and regulatory compliance and reporting.
• An understanding of, and adherence to, the Auditors Code of Ethics and the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing as developed by the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Advanced certification and/or degree (MBA, CPA, CIA, CISA, etc.) required.
• Sarbanes-Oxley and internal control review experience.

Communication:

• Written, verbal and presentation skills necessary to interact effectively with senior management and Audit Committee.
