JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the President and partnering with senior management, the chief financial officer (CFO) will set the Company’s financial policy and direction while also being an active participant in the organization’s overall strategy. S/he will lead all financial administration, business planning, and budgeting.  The CFO will oversee the Company’s administrative functions:  accounting/finance, human resources (HR), real estate/facilities and shipping.


 


Specific responsibilities include:



Financial and Operational Management



  • Oversee budgeting, and the implementation of budgets, so as to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally.

  • Ensure that finance staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and monitor the use of all funds.

  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding organizations and the Company’s board of directors / owners; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.

  • Provide the management team with analytical support and tools to evaluate financial performance and key operating and strategic decisions.

  • Evaluate the overall inventory buy plan in conjunction with the agreed upon budget.

  • Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.

  • Coordinate all audit activities; including managing the relationship.

  • Coordinate all bank activities.

  • Evaluate and oversee all benefits negotiations, thus providing the most competitive packages for the Company’s employees.

  • Review all formal accounting/finance-, inventory planning-, HR-, and IT-related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.


Strategy



  • Partner with the President and CEO on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.

  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team; implement balanced scorecard to monitor success.

  • Participate in evaluation and modeling of potential acquisition opportunities.

  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the Company’s strategic plan.

  • Engage the leadership team to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections.

  • Engage the board finance committee / owners around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery.


Team Management



  • Develop and manage direct staff, to include accounting/finance, inventory planning, HR, and shipping.

  • Engage other members of the senior management team to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures that all financial, inventory planning, IT, and HR solutions positively support the Company’s evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs.

  • Provide guidance on attracting and developing key team members for the Company.


 


Qualifications
The CFO will be a seasoned and mature leader with at least 12-15 years of broad finance experience. S/he will ideally have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting), inventory planning, and HR for an apparel based company.

The CFO will have the following experience and attributes:



  • A minimum of a BS in Finance or Accounting; a CPA/CMA or MBA would be a plus.

  • Mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner to the senior leadership team of an apparel based company.

  • Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting.

  • Skill in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial, inventory planning and HR processes procedures.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.

  • A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality. Needs to be seen as a team player who is committed to lifelong learning.

  • A hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

  • An effective communicator, with strong oral and written skills.

  • Strong commitment to developing team members.
