JOB DESCRIPTION
A key member of the worldwide tax leadership team, responsible for all tax matters relating to the company’s North American operations.
Principal Accountabilities
The responsibilities include but not be limited to;
- In coordination with the global tax team, responsible for planning and implementation of tax strategies that are consistent with corporate policies while minimizing worldwide tax expense and tax risk
- Responsible for compliance, forecasting and planning, tax provisions, research and analysis, acquisitions and disposals, audits and legacy tax matters for the Americas.
This will require oversight of the following key areas:
- Provide tax guidance to executive management on major business decisions including the review of large customer contracts and quotations to ensure that applicable tax exposures are identified and evaluated in the decision process
- Detailed review of all federal and state income tax returns; mitigation of compliance exposures and ensuring adequate documentation of tax positions taken
- Detailed annual review of tax accrual work papers for IFRS and US GAAP (SFAS109/FIN 48) tax provisions; quarterly review of tax cash payments; revising short and long term expense/cash forecasts as appropriate
- Control of income tax audits by government agencies and the negotiation of proposed settlements for current and legacy subsidiaries; coordination with current owners on legacy subsidiary exposures
- Monitoring transfer pricing policies and making recommendations to senior management if changes or adjustments are appropriate; ensure that documentation is maintained;
- Conduct or coordinate due diligence for acquisitions and disposals; provide input on tax-efficient structures; review of contract clauses; assist with integration process
- Assist business group/finance/tax/legal executives with mergers, liquidations, and other reorganizations to achieve operational, legal, and tax-driven structural efficiencies within the worldwide group
- Undertake the leadership on assigned projects requiring internal and external cross-disciplinary involvement
- Providing assistance and advisory services to corporate executives and project leaders on all matters relating to US tax
- Recruitment, supervision and mentoring the US tax team
Experience/Skills
- B.S. in accounting or equivalent with an advanced Tax MST or JD degree
- CPA with 10 years related experience/Big Four/Corporate Tax Department background
- Current broad-based US tax knowledge in federal, multistate and international matters, transfer pricing, mergers and acquisitions
- Strong tax accounting knowledge (IFRS, SFAS 109, FIN 48); Hyperion/HFM experience desirable
- Project management experience, specifically in implementing reorganizations, acquisitions, and disposal of companies, engaging external resources as needed; capacity to deliver complex projects both as leader of a tax team and as a member of a broader multi-disciplinary group
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Ability to successfully explain complex tax issues to non-tax and non-US management personnel
- Experience managing and leading a team, ability to train and motivate team members

Tax

- Creativity to Maximize Cash Position - demonstrates creativity to optimize tax position of the company by reorganizing the capital structure favorably in adherence to local laws/regulations. Recommends options to implement business decision based on optimize financial cash position.
- Knowledge of Tax Laws - demonstrate knowledge of tax laws and regulations through continual education whilst ensuring compliance with internal/external policies, procedures and laws. Knowledge of corporation tax, VAT PAYE and R&D credits.
- Tax Planning & Strategy - able to define and communicate tax strategy and principles to the business. In relationship to the discipline and its application to the business including tax forecasting and modeling.
