Responsibilities:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller is accountable for all financial, information systems, materials management activities and for the maintenance of systems and procedures for financial control. The Controller provides financial guidance for the decision making process and in the establishment of management policies and procedures. Direct reports are the IT Coordinator, Accounting Supervisor and the Purchasing Agent.
-Responsible for the preparation of financial reporting to the parent company and external government bodies, in accordance with generally accepted U.S. accounting principles and corporate accounting policies.
-Ensures that effective internal controls and policies are in place to safeguard the assets of the operation and to ensure compliance with company policies and government legislation.
-Assumes a senior management role in providing financial guidance through the preparation and adherence to an approved business plan, as well as, assisting in the development and updating of company policies.
-Oversees the accounting, information services and materials management functions and ensures staff are developed and trained to complete their functions safely and effectively.
-Works to ensure effective communications and harmonious relationships are maintained with internal and external contacts.
-Maintains a professional and ethical responsibility that adheres to the corporate code of ethics in all business dealings with internal and external contacts.
-Plays an active role in the Site Senior Management Team to identify, develop and implement medium to long term strategies in improving all aspects if the Site, including safety, environment, people, production and cost.
-Coordinates the development of short to long term objectives for the Department and oversees their implementation.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s in Accounting with an MBA in Accounting strongly preferred. A minimum of 5 years of Controller experience required, preferably with a modern ore processing facility. Ability to work either four days on - three days off or, two weeks on – one week off at a remote self contained mine camp with full amenities.
