This position is located in Houston, TX, and will report to the VP Accounting & Finance. As we continue to grow, we need high caliber, experienced individuals to join our team.
 
Top ten criteria for the Controller position:
 
1.         CPA, a plus
2.         Hands on experience with physical natural gas or power
3.         Technical accounting skills in 133 and related topics, plus a broad understanding of GAAP
4.         Willingness to work in an entrepreneurial environment
5.         Desire to challenge the status quo
6.         Systems implementation experience (e.g. ERMs, nMarkets, CIS or other related energy systems)
7.         Understanding of swaps, options and other derivatives
8.         Managerial experience (group of 20+)

Responsibilities:
•    Manage the preparation of consolidated financial statements.
•    Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
•    Coordinate the preparation of all information necessary for compliance with GAAP, SEC, IRS, and other taxing entity requirements.
•    Manage the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, and capital expenditure documents, department budgets, ledger, and account maintenance.
•    Provide direct oversight of all general ledger activities for all monthly closing requirements.
•    Oversee cash controls, account payables, account receivable and capital budgeting activities.
•    Maintain compliance of all Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and provide central point of contact for all internal audit matters of the company.
•    Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
•    Manage various system implementations and enhancements with respect to the associated processes and controls
•    Review and enhance accounting processes on an ongoing basis focusing on accuracy and efficiency.
•    Responsible for tax compliance including: gross receipts taxes, sales and use tax, and assisting corporate tax department with the preparation of all required tax returns.
•    Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders. Analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential weak areas.
•    Set-up and/or manage all financial and operational controls and metrics within the organization.
•    Analyze current and future business operations and plans to determine financial effectiveness.
Qualifications
•    Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.
•    CPA required. 
•    8 years minimum of previous experience, demonstrating success in progressive positions of responsibility.
•    Big 4 Public Accounting Experience is required. 
•    Previous energy industry experience is required.
•    Technical competence in finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including GAAP and FASB pronouncements.
•    Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
•    Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
•    Excellent analytical, assessment, and leadership skills.
•    Solid critical thinking and problem solving skills.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
