JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The primary responsibility of a Research Associate is to assist Portfolio Managers in researching, developing, deploying, and improving the firm’s investment management strategies. The ideal candidate for this position has outstanding quantitative skills and is highly capable of independent research. He or she has the ability to take ownership of and responsibility for specific projects, and is able to effectively prioritize research in order to reach conclusions and deliver solutions to meet company deadlines. The position provides an excellent way to learn about and become involved in the investment management and hedge fund industry.


 


Current staff of Research Associates have graduate degrees in finance, economics, computer science, statistics, physics, or mathematics, but more important than the actual field is a strong facility with quantitative methods and native problem-solving ability. Experience with finance, economics, econometrics, or investment management is a plus but not required. Instead, the key requirements are self motivation,and the ability to learn.


 


The successful candidate will have:


 



- Phd in a quantitative field, such as finance, economics, computer science, statistics, physics, or mathematics


 


- Progress toward the CFA designation preferred.


 


- Proficiency in programming with Matlab is required. Experience with Matlab/SQL/C++/Java - Visual Basic is desirable.


 


- The ability and motivation to take initiative and solve quantitative research problems independently.


 


- Experience handling empirical data, preferably in a database environment.


 


- Attentiveness to detail and willingness to check and re-check work to minimize error.


 


- Excellent communication and organizational skills.


 


- Candidates will have the option to work out of the New York and/or their Miami office
