Summary of Responsibilities:

This position is within the Controllers Group, supporting the International segment.  The position is accountable for the oversight of the GAAP consolidation and reporting process for the International operations of MetLife.  Related responsibilities include assisting the countries in the implementation of GAAP policy, maintenance of HFM for the International segment, and supervision of 5 accounting staff.  The position reports to the Assistant VP of the Financial Reporting Unit, and has regular interaction with financial associates in our foreign operations; as well as with associates from within Controllers and the International segment management.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Lead the reporting and consolidation of actual results for MetLife International.

• Review and oversee the translation of footnotes and MD&A schedules

• Review analysis of financial results submitted by countries and prepare/review consolidated summaries

• Manage the use of Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) for international, assure appropriate maintenance is initiated as needed to keep up with International growth and new reporting requirements

• Lead or participate in special projects for the MetLife International Controller

• Assist with the implementation of new US GAAP guidance throughout MetLife International

• Responsible for the development, review and overall management of the entire MetLife International Reporting and Consolidations Team (5 accounting professionals)

• Perform and maintain SOX processes and controls for the International Home Office

• Participate in M&A initiatives for MetLife International

• Address questions from external auditors regarding the quarterly reviews and yearly audits

• Primary contact for the other line of business to address questions involving MetLife International

Required Competencies:

• B.S in Accounting/Finance at least 8 years of experience

• CPA designation preferred

• Proficient in US GAAP, understanding of IFRS a plus

• Knowledge of insurance accounting a plus

• Demonstrated analytical skills

• Prior supervisory experience

• Ability to work with associates at all levels, including senior management.

• Ability to produce results and carry out initiatives without constant supervision

• Able to manage time efficiently and prioritize responsibilities and meet company deadlines.

• Excellent written and verbal communications, interpersonal skills

• Prior experience with international reporting including an understanding of the impact of foreign exchange on results a plus
